THE POWER OF SIMPLE REALITIES

We need each other.  This is a truth I know, and yet in the routine busyness of daily living I can still be surprised by the power of this simple reality. A few weeks ago Emily flew across the country from her home on the east coast to stay with us for a week.  Emily … Continue reading THE POWER OF SIMPLE REALITIES

KEEPING STEADY

One of my favorite Old Testament stories is found in the Book of Exodus.  The Israelites are under attack and Moses tells Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites.  Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”  So Joshua fought … Continue reading KEEPING STEADY

TEA & TA-TA’S

When I looked at my cell phone the display announced a message from Heather.  Heather and I have been church family for two decades. She brings meals to my home in trying seasons, speaks wisdom into my life in the church parking lot, and faithfully holds me up in moments when the prayers of the … Continue reading TEA & TA-TA’S

HOMEMADE FOOD IS OPTIONAL

I love to love people with food.  And when life is too hectic to cook, I love guests with pizza delivery. The heart of hospitality is not serving great food to your guests.  It is inviting people into our homes to receive the gifts of care and belonging.  Sometimes I have the energy to do … Continue reading HOMEMADE FOOD IS OPTIONAL

WHAT A TEENAGE RIDE OPERATOR LEARNED ABOUT COMMUNITY

Throughout my teenage years I spent every summer working as a ride operator at Six Flags Magic Mountain in my hometown of Santa Clarita, California.  My fondest memories from the summers of 1988-1992 are not with friends I knew from school, they are with the friends that I got to know while working at a … Continue reading WHAT A TEENAGE RIDE OPERATOR LEARNED ABOUT COMMUNITY

Welcome!

Beginning my career at midlife as a hospice Bereavement Coordinator was not a new path. It is the continuation of the hospitality I’ve practiced for nearly three decades. Sharing life around my table is valuable experience for learning how to be present with people gathered around a loved one’s bedside. This site is a place to explore how the practice of both hospitality and hospice care are teaching me how to live a meaningful life.

I’m so glad that you’re here.
