I’m so excited to share a link to an article about Sarah Harmeyer’s inspiring story that has radically influenced my community dinners.
Many years ago, Sarah asked her dad to build her a table that can seat 22 people for her backyard, so that she could build connections in her community by inviting neighbors to her home for dinner. She began inviting people to share a meal at her table, whether she knew them or not. Everyone who came signed the top of her table with a sharpie marker. By the end of the year she had over 500 signatures on her table and countless stories of the meaningful relationships that formed because people living in the same community gathered to share meals.
The inspiration I gleaned from Sarah expanded my dream for what our weekly dinners could look like. Eventually I too would have a table for 20 people built for my backyard that is signed by everyone who shares a meal with us.
I’m forever grateful for Sarah and the gift of her story that has made mine so much richer:
I was chuckling picturing you, enthusiastic sunshiny YOU, talking to Shauna, and then you said it! About the chuckling. Too cute! xoxo
